Sacred Care for Families Across Western Massachusetts
Springfield Diocesan Cemeteries has served the Catholic faithful of western Massachusetts for generations. We care for 12 diocesan cemeteries across the region — sacred spaces where families can find comfort, community, and the enduring promise of the resurrection.
Our ministry goes beyond the grounds we tend. We walk with families before loss, during it, and long after — offering guidance rooted in the Church’s teaching on the dignity of life and the hope of eternal life.

Plan With Peace of Mind
The Greatest Gift You Can Give Your Family
When the time comes, the last thing a grieving family should face is uncertainty. Pre-need planning removes that burden — locking in your wishes, your arrangements, and often your pricing, long before they’re needed.
Families who plan ahead consistently say the same thing: I wish we had done this sooner. We make it simple, compassionate, and deeply personal.
Your Wishes, Honored
Plan the arrangements that reflect your faith and
your life.
Your Family, Protected
Spare loved ones from difficult decisions during an
already painful time.
Your Costs, Managed
Pre-need planning can protect against rising costs
over time.
I never thought about planning ahead until we went through it with my mother-in-law. She had everything arranged. It made an incredibly hard time so much easier. We’re planning ahead now because of that experience.

The Catholic Tradition of Sacred Burial
Catholic Funeral Rights
The Catholic funeral rite is one of the Church’s most sacred ceremonies — a final commendation of the faithful departed to God’s mercy, and a source of consolation for those who grieve.
Rooted in centuries of tradition, the rite typically includes the Vigil, the Funeral Mass, and the Rite of Committal at the graveside. Each step is an act of worship, an affirmation of faith in the resurrection, and a reminder that death is not the final word.
Cremation
The Catholic Church permits cremation, provided it is not chosen for reasons contrary to Christian doctrine. However, the Church is clear: cremated remains must be treated with the same reverence as the body, and must be buried or entombed in a sacred place.
Scattering ashes, dividing remains, or keeping them at home are not consistent with Catholic teaching. A Catholic cemetery provides the sacred space the Church requires — and the dignity your loved one deserves.
Catholic Burial Arrangements
Springfield Diocesan Cemeteries offers a range of burial options to meet the needs and wishes of every family. Whether you are planning ahead or making arrangements during a time of loss, we will walk you through every option with care and without pressure.
Our cemeteries offer traditional in-ground burial, mausoleum entombment, cremation gardens, columbarium niches, and sections for both monuments and flat markers.
Bereavement Support
Grief is not a problem to be solved — it is a journey to be walked. The loss of a loved one touches every part of life, and finding support along the way matters.
We believe our ministry does not end at the graveside. Whether you are newly grieving or carrying a loss from long ago, we want to connect you with resources that offer comfort, community, and hope rooted in faith.
Planning ahead was the best decision our family ever made. When my husband passed, everything was already in place. I could focus on grieving, not logistics.
